Do you have a bump on the side of your big toe joint?

Do you have a bump on the side of your big toe joint?

This is more than likely a bunion.  But, a bunion is more than just a bump.  Even though you can’t see it a bunion is actually showing that the bones in the front part of the foot are changing.  Instead of pointing straight ahead, the big toe leans toward the second toe.  This causes the bones to move out of alignment and produces the bump that you see.

Bunions are a disorder that progressively worsens.  The big toe slowly starts leaning toward the second toe and as it leans the angle of the bones gradually changes.  As this continues the bump slowly forms and becomes more noticeable.  Bunions are genetic; however, they usually become painful due to shoe pressure.

Some of the patients Dr. Brian Gale, DPM, FACFAS sees with bunions have been putting up with the pain for too long.  You don’t need to be one of these people.  If you are experiencing any pain please give us a call at Our Bismarck Office or go online to schedule an appointment today.
