What is PRP?

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?

The term PRP comes from the fact that it is in fact the patient’s own concentrated blood platelets, and as a result of this high concentration it contains a high number (3-5 times more than typically found) of natural growth and healing factors.

How is PRP Obtained?

To acquire PRP, a physician first draws a small amount of the patient’s blood, which is then spun in a machine at a high speed in order to concentrate the sample. After the sample is spun, it is then injected in the area being treated.

What’s the Benefit for Dakota Foot & Ankle Clinic and its Patients?

PRP injection has been found to be useful in the treatment of arthritis, as well as tendon, cartilage and bone injuries.  Plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendon, and ankle ligament injuries have all benefited from PRP injection on a case-by-case basis.
