Faqsfoot And Ankle Injuries

Q:  Will I always need to wear an ankle brace during sporting activites?

A: It is recommended.  People who play sports, exercise, or have any strenuous activity are at a greater chance for ankle sprains.  If you have had an ankle sprain before, your chance of having more sprains could be increased if there is any ligament damage which has resulted in the joint being more unstable.  Dakota Foot & Ankle Clinic has medical grady ankle braces which provide the proper support necessary to prevent ankle injuries.  Give us a call at 701-255-3338 if you want to make an appointment to see Dr. Brian Gale, DPM, FACFAS .

Q:  Will an ankle sprain heal without treatment?

A: Yes and no.  Many ankle sprains are undertreated without seeing a foot and ankle specialist.  They may require treatment such as casts, crutches, physical therapy, ice, and/or elevation to heal as quickly as possible.  Sometimes injuries like ankle sprains seem to be improving for days or weeks, but the healing process seems to level off and the pain and swelling continues with increased activities.  Go online to Request an Appointment if you think you might have sprained your ankle.

Q:  Why is my ankle popping?

A: An ankle popping is usually caused by pockets of fluid moving around.  If there isn't any pain, it is possible that there may be an old injury but nothing serious.  On the hand, if there is enough instability it can cause pain and recurrent sprains or falls.  If your ankle is popping and you have any concern about it, give us a call at 701-255-3338 to make an appointment with Dr. Brian Gale, DPM, FACFAS today.
