1. It’s most likely Plantar Fasciitis
It is said that 1 in 4 people suffer from heel pain. 90-95% of the time when people have heel pain upon first standing in the morning it is Plantar Fasciitis.
The pain can vary from mild when they first stand up in the morning to severe pain all day long where you can’t walk, have stopped exercising and even working. The common indicator is some degree of heel pain when first standing up in the morning. In severe cases people even have pain when they are sitting because there is so much inflammation and nerve pressure.
2. It can affect almost everyone
Plantar Fasciitis affects people age 16 and older. It is common for people to think ‘I’m old, my body is just wearing out.’ But in reality, I see patients in their 20’s, 30’s & 40’s all the time. It is very common and the problem can be resolved very easily with conservative, non-surgical and non-invasive treatments within a few weeks to months in most cases.
3. Not all insoles are created equal
Over the counter “custom fit” insoles you get from standing on the digital platform at various retail stores are ok if you are just looking for a little extra padding, but they are nothing like orthotics made in our office. A good thing to remember is if you can slip the “ over the counter” insole in your shoe and your shoe still fits comfortably, the relief you may get will probably only last a few weeks or less because there isn’t much substance to them. We do offer some great over the counter insoles at our office for under $20 that are a great starting point. These offer significant support and shock absorption and often times require you to change shoe size. The custom orthotics we offer are made by creating a mold of your feet. They are made to control the abnormal forces of your feet so it takes the stress off the Plantar Fascia. They are only as good as the shoe they are in,however.
