When to Visit a Podiatrist for Psoriasis

When to Visit a Podiatrist for Psoriasis.

It is especially important to see a podiatrist for psoriasis if you notice it on your feet.  Your feet may be reddened and itchy.   Psoriasis can also mimic athlete’s foot or contact dermatitis.  If your feet are dry and itchy and it is not relieved by any at home methods it is best to see Dr. Brian Gale, DPM, FACFAS.

Dr. Gale will complete an exam of your feet and look at your medical history.  He may also take a biopsy of the affected area to confirm that it is psoriasis.

If the psoriasis is mild, it can be treated by a topical cream that is applied directly to the affected area.  More severe cases may need something that can treat the whole body.  If it is a severe case you may need to work with more than one medical specialist to get it under control.

You cannot prevent psoriasis, but you can help control it.  Stress management is very important.  Dry air, alcohol, and sunlight can trigger psoriasis so it is important to control your exposure to these elements.
