Tips for Running in the Winter

Tips for running in the winter

Don’t let the cold weather and snow slow you down.  Here are a few tips to help you stay active during the winter

-Wear warm, light-weight, moisture wicking active wear.

-Change the way you run.  Try running by having your whole foot hit the ground instead of a heel to foot motion. Run in shorter strides to help maintain stability.

-Stretch!  Cool weather may make you less flexible so you want to warm up your muscles.

-Wear a single pair of acrylic sock.  Acrylic is designed to wick away moisture

-Put spikes on your shoes, such as Yaktrax walkers, especially if you are running on icy surfaces.

If you slip and hurt your foot and ankle when running make sure to call us right away. Dr. Brian Gale, DPM, FACFAS treats foot injuries routinely and can help you get healed properly so you can get back to running as soon as possible. It is critical to maintain joint function after an injury. Contact Us at Dakota Foot & Ankle Clinic today to set up an appointment.  If you are looking for Yaktrax or a pair of running shoes to wear in the winter stop by Happy Soles Footwear today!
